A replica PRC-77.  An empty, lightweight shell that can hold a small walkie-talkie inside.  Perfect for those who want to have that over-the-top impression or when the real PRC radio is too heavy or unavailable.

Oh yes, Pat. That's a nice "prick" you got there!  Very Happy

On a serious note: I don't know if radios are made like they were back in the not-so-distant past I mean, the "backpack" type with the handset dangling on the ALICE/LBE strap.

The AN/PRC 77 Radio Set is a manpack, portable VHF FM combat-net radio transceiver manufactured by "Associated Industries" and used to provide short-range, two-way radiotelephone voice communication. AN/PRC translates to "Army/Navy, Portable Radio, Communication.

Freq range: 30-75.95 MHz (920 Channels using 50kHz steps)
Range: up to 8km
Power Output: 1.5-2.0W

The AN/PRC 77 entered service in 1968 during the Vietnam War as an upgrade to the earlier AN/PRC 25. It differs from its predecessor mainly in that its final power amplifier stage is solid state and not vacuum tubes.

The newer FRS radio has more power than the old PRC 25/77's from back in Nam.

I have the real thing and have attended a few Vietnam themed games as an RTO.  Its very f-ing heavy.

I might pick up this hollowed replica too, I'm gonna see first what it looks like in person.  I know someone who is getting one of these.

Heres a few shots

The PRC is hidden under various pouches, in this instance with a claymore mine bag.  It was common for enemy snipers to target the RTO first--no radio, no help.

At a show a Vietnam vet told me to tuck in my antenna (which he did for me anyway) because I was a 'target'.  After he left I pulled out the antenna again, after all we were in a show and I wanted to be seen.  LOL

I'm sure I've posted these shots before:

We were careful to hide Scott's (the only white dude) boots in the pics.  The dumbass lost his jungle boots and are actually wearing modern desert boots

In this 'calling the coordinates' shot you can see Scott's desert boots.  Smokes on my PRC were loaners as I have only one smoke grenade and its attached to my suspenders.

I'll take PRC pics tomorrow.  I thought I had some in my harddrive.
